Jasmine Cottage

exterior view of cottageSet in the picturesque village of Askrigg this quaint little cottage is ideal for relaxing indoors or outdoors on the secluded patio/court yard or taking one of the many scenic walks in the area.

Askrigg is a spectacular place to visit at any time of year. It was nominated by The Times as the best place in the UK for a holiday home.

The picturesque village of Askrigg was once a small market town renowned for its 18 clock makers, but in more recent times it has delighted millions of television viewers as the fictional village of Darrowby in the TV series based on James Herriot’s Dales veterinary tales, All Creatures Great and Small.
There are splendid walks to be enjoyed around the King’s Arms including the waterfalls ramble to Mill Gill Fall and Whitfield Fall, sketched by the artist JMW Turner and spectacular in full spate. A little further afield, Aysgarth Falls are a triple flight of waterfalls, surrounded by forest and farmland, carved out by the River Ure over an almost a one-mile stretch on its descent to mid-Wensleydale. In wet weather, thousands of gallons of peaty water cascade over Aysgarth’s broad limestone steps.
Askrigg is home to a thriving community of artists and crafts people inspired to live and work in the area by the wild beauty of the fells and dales. There are a number of studios in the village that are open to visitors, and a good place to pick up some original art.

Askrigg has a fine church that sits in the heart of the village near to the old market cross. It hosts three pubs all serving a variety of food and local ales. There is a shop with a tea room where provisions and daily newspapers can be bought and a deli which sells daily baked bread, pies, pasties, cakes etc. The deli also hosts a gift shop in which the post office is situated (Mon and Wed) and tea room; it sells delicious home made bistro meals to take away.

A local bus service operates on a daily basis dropping off and picking up in the village and there is plenty of off street parking available at no cost.
